NECKLACE CHAINS

Does the necklace chain come with the pendants ?

Each Pendant shown is priced for the pendant only unless otherwise stated.

You can choose the neckband suitable for you. All pendants featured work well on the stainless steel extension chains, black neoprene or sterling silver omega chains

All provide a different look so, choose one, two, none or all of them!

Are the stainless steel neck chains any good ??

Well .. yes they are actually fantastic !! They are NOT a cheap display chain that will break or ‘go green’ :))

They are made from 316L stainless steel which is extremely hypoallergenic, marine grade, durable and affordable. It will not rust, corrode, tarnish, stain, fade, or turn your skin green.

It is then ION plated......

What is ion plating?

Also known as IP Plating, this is one of the newest surface coating procedures and also the most advanced till date. It involves adding a titanium nitride layer to the base metal, in a vapor form. The end result is a harder and more durable surface which offers greater brightness and sheen than the traditional methods of plating. Given its durability and chemical stability, ion plating is rightly called “permanent” coating.

So .. all in all .. a great chain for a great price !!

How do I know what length necklace chain to choose?

Our stainless steel extension chains take out all the guess work as they can be worn at any length between 42cm and 50cm.

Both the Sterling silver omega chains and neoprene bands hold a 'collar' shape rather than the 'V' shape of a linked chain. Most common sizes are 40 cm, 45cm and 50cm for these style pendants.

Use a piece of string ( or similar ) and measure to determine best size.

JEWELLERY CARE

How do I look after my Dahlia Designs Jewellery?

Jewellery can become a treasured family heirloom if it is cared for properly. Sunscreens, dust, and daily wear all conspire to cloud the original sparkle of gemstones. The surface of silver jewellery can become dulled. A few hard knocks, over exposure to water and chemicals can result in the loss of a pearl, stone or an entire piece of jewellery.

Sterling Silver

We only use sterling silver*, one of the most beautiful and lustrous of all metals and then finish it in rhodium for a sparkling white gold look. Our gold pieces are electroplated with 18K gold to a 2 micron plating which is, in general four times industry standard. With proper care, your silver will retain its beauty and character.

*unless stated.

Silver Care

Sterling silver tarnishes, especially when exposed to salt air, perspiration and products containing sulfur, such as rubber bands and some papers. We plate ours with rhodium, 18k yellow and rose gold which helps to inhibit tarnish. Care must be taken with this plating though so do not use chemicals to clean it. Just use a soft cloth.

Washing Silver

We recommend washing your silver jewellery by hand in warm water with a very mild detergent and rinse with clean water. Because gases in the air can have a corrosive effect, we suggest that you wash your silver immediately after use. Silver should not be left to soak in water especially pieces set with pearls as these are glued onto a pin. Exposure to water can eventually degrade the adhesive and loosen the pearl. Always check the pearl is secure and contact us if there is a problem. It is extremely important to dry your silver immediately after washing.

Polishing Silver

Use ONLY a soft microfibre or suede cloth to polish your piece. Some "dip" polishes contain harsh chemicals and should be avoided. Electrolytic cleaning (aluminum foil, salt and baking soda in a water base) or machines are NOT suitable for pearl jewellery.

Rub each piece gently but firmly lengthwise, using straight, even strokes. You may use a small brush (like a toothbrush with natural bristles) for decorative trim or borders.

Special Considerations

An "oxidized" finish is the deliberate blackening of crevices in the ornamentation of a silver object to make its decorative details stand out more clearly. Take care as this finish can be removed by overzealous cleaning and polishing.

Storing Silver

Once cleaned and polished, silver must be kept dry and properly stored.

When storing be sure it is absolutely dry. If the climate is humid, place a small packet of demoisturizing crystals (e.g., silica gel) inside the storage medium. Between wearings, we recommend that you place it back in its original case or another suitably lined box or pouch. It stores well in cellophane pouches as well.

Gemstones

Certain basic precautions should be taken with all of your jewellery. However, pearls can require some special care.

Take care to protect your jewellery from impact against hard surfaces and avoid contact with abrasive surfaces.

A cubic zirconia can chip if hit with force or at just the right angle.

Pearls can be pretty tough but can be easily abraded. Enamel can also chip or scratch when struck.

Gemstones can scratch other gemstones and wear away at precious metals. Therefore, avoid stacking those rings and bracelets that would be vulnerable to such abrasion.

Extreme temperatures, perfumes, cosmetics, ultrasonic cleaning and household chemicals can also damage jewellery.

If worn often, pearls should be cleaned and restrung professionally once a year. Between cleanings, wipe pearls gently with a damp cloth.

So .... General care !

The shell and the pearls are both organic structures and can deteriorate without care.

As with the more expensive saltwater pearl, avoid perfumes. Make your jewellery the put on 'last thing you put on' and the 'first thing you take off'.

Wipe down with a microfibre cleaning cloth to remove any residues from your skin and store separately. DO NOT use silver cleaning cloths on pieces that are finished with rhodium or 18k gold. The cloth WILL remove the plating !!

Pearls can be scratched by hard stones like diamonds so store seperately.

Neoprenes can be wiped with a damp cloth. Do not leave in direct sunlight for long periods.

Sterling silver omega chains should be wiped down with a cloth and stored flat.

Rhodium and Gold plating MUST be cleaned with a microfibre cloth only as chemicals in jewellery cleaning cloths can remove the plating.
